Oh No - A Subject I Hate, But One That Is Needed.

Gentlemen - I am no GURU - when it comes to writing resumes. However, having been working in this field, I have come across resumes that I would literally throw out if I was hiring, and I am quite certain - the employers are in the same boat.

Having received valuable feedback from employers not only for myself, but for those that list jobs on Spec Ops Advantage - there are things I must pass on to all of you. First is this - which has been posted to the e-mails before;
  • DO NOT send the 2 page ACAP type resume - however, you need to have for certain jobs so keep on handy.
  • DO – List Complete Chronological MILITARY Experience (applies to fed / LEA service as well) From going in to leaving.
  • Summarize all contract or other work not in the service.
  • List highest School completed
  • List last security clearance and last date held. NOT just you had S 35 yrs ago.
  • List passport status
  • List if you have current CAC card

Contacting A Potential Employer

We as potential employees are seeking not only work, but compensation for our work. Employers, have the contracts or are bidding on those contracts for which we are submitting our information - seeking employment.

Contact the employer via e-mail with a cover letter and a resume. Almost everyone has MS Word - and this is the format that they should be submitted in. You should not contact the potential employer via telephone, unless they have requested you do so in the job posting. They will contact you.

There are several companies that hire - and the CEO's / Owners / Partners are ladies. As with all missions - we need to consider who it is we are talking to - and treat them with total respect. I had posted once that a couple of the companies had terrible responses from men clients (not our Spec Ops Types) and they treated the ladies like they didn't know anything or demanded to talk to their boseses. Hummm... Need I say more?
